ABOUT MEPhotojournalistHi! My name is Joe Ryan and I currently work as a senior staff photographer and assistant photo editor for The Diamondback, the independent student-run newspaper at the University of Maryland. I cover local news and government meetings (fun!), as well as contacting sources for portraits. I also cover sports games like basketball and football.
During the winter of 2020, I studied abroad in Oaxaca, Mexico, and was given the opportunity to photograph a the local markets, a family, a school for people with downs syndrome, and a slaughterhouse. I recommend you check those out! |
During the winter of 2020, I went on a photography-themed study abroad trip to Oaxaca, Mexico. While we were there, my peers and I took photos at the local markets, with families that lived in the area, and at a school in the city for people with downs syndrome.
I also got the opportunity to go to a local slaughterhouse and document the process by which a cow goes from farm to table. It is some of my favorite work to date, but the photos are not for the faint of heart. |
